Perfectionism - The Perfect Way to Achieve Nothing
Hello friends
This is my very first newsletter and honestly I’m not quite sure what I want to achieve from it or where this journey will take me. It feels a little weird sending this out to real people, but isn’t that the way with anything new? It’s always weird and scary at first. All I know is that I’ve had this itch to try something different and creative for a while now but I never started. Looking back on my life, I can’t help but notice how often that is the case. How many times I’ve uttered the phrase, “I’ve been thinking about it, but I haven’t started. I don’t know how to start”. Why is it that we are so full of ideas, yet we often hesitate to bring them to life? And why is the weight of regret for not doing something often heavier than the satisfaction of actually doing it, yet that’s the route we take? One word sums it up - perfectionism.
Our whole existence seems to be about avoiding mistakes as much as possible, be it in school, at work, in love, or pretty much every aspect of life. We chase after those perfect grades, the ideal job, the flawless partner, immaculate kids, and an impeccable life. It’s ironic - we, as humans, are the poster children for imperfections, yet we relentlessly pursue perfection. But here’s the thing: perfect is never successful. All success stories share one common thread - they stumbled and fell before they soared.
“Perfect is the enemy of good.” This simple phrase struck a chord with me like nothing else, and it’s what ignited the spark for this newsletter. I have let so many opportunities slip through my fingers because I didn’t have the perfect pitch, or the perfect resume, or the perfect idea, or the perfect video. Not anymore.
P.S. Shoutout to the lucky four folks receiving this - my family and 1 friend. I appreciate you being some of the very first readers <3
