Why I decided to start a YouTube channel
Creating content was the last thing I ever thought I'd do. Even when the trend was hot during the COVID boom, not once did this idea cross my mind. I'd even think twice before posting on Instagram, often choosing to delete instead of share. The thought of making videos where I was the star? Not a chance. Maybe it was how I grew up, or my parents’ reluctance to let me post online that kept me at arm's length. But starting my own channel? That’s been one of the biggest twists in my life—intense as it sounds. It just wasn’t me… until it was.
When I decided to quit my job, I felt lost and confused. I knew I needed to explore something new—something that would help ease the anxiety swirling in my mind. I realized that to think differently, I had to expose myself to new ideas. In today’s world, having an audience gives you a voice and a sense of freedom, and that’s all I’ve ever wanted. After years of thinking like an employee, venturing into social media felt foreign. So, I started studying people who I felt think differently—not just entrepreneurs or successful YouTubers, but individuals from all walks of life. I invested hundreds of hours into this exploration—seriously, I could’ve earned another degree with all the time I spent reading, listening to podcasts, and going to meetups!
Starting my channel is about self-discovery, and I’m certain it will eventually spark an idea that’s been cooking in my mind. Taking the time for self-discovery could possibly be the best gift I could give myself. Anything worth doing comes with its challenges. Leaving everything to fate and sticking to a narrow path just because I was too far in to turn back? That could easily be mistaken for giving up and that thought was unacceptable.
But here’s the thing: those small paths can be beautiful and refreshing. Some people are perfectly happy where they are, and that’s okay! Your life is your journey, and expecting everyone to want the same things you do is a bit unrealistic. Reading stories like this might make you question your own desires, but remember: it’s about what you truly want. If your heart is nudging you to try something new, take the leap. Just know that expecting it to be easy would be a bit naive.
Starting this YouTube journey is my way of testing the waters toward the freedom I crave. I know there are plenty of people out there who feel overwhelmed by taking that first step, yet they dream of a life where they can do what they want, when they want, with whom they choose—where taking risks doesn’t come with constant worries about finances. I want to live intentionally and make my own decisions, and I’m excited to see where this journey leads.
More than anything, I want to build a community—a small group of like-minded individuals who are on a similar path. Maybe you’re trying something that could help you reach your goals. I’m always curious about what others are doing, so I’d love to hear from you! Are you on a similar journey? What steps are you taking, and what challenges are you facing? Let me know!
